GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound can be powerful tools, but they often come with new challenges: low appetite, nausea, constipation, reflux, and difficulty meeting protein and hydration needs. These effects can make it hard to eat consistently and keep progress steady.
As a private practice Registered Dietitian, I support clients on GLP-1 medications with practical, individualized strategies that fit real life.
What we focus on in appointments
1) Protein first (without forcing large meals): When appetite is low, many people unintentionally under-eat protein. We build a realistic plan for protein spacing across the day and discuss options that are easier to tolerate during dose changes.
2) Fiber and gut comfort (constipation support): Constipation is a common GLP-1 side effect. We work on gradual fiber increases, food choices that are gentle on the stomach, and hydration strategies that support regularity.
3) Hydration and electrolytes: Low thirst plus slower digestion can lead to dehydration and fatigue. We set simple hydration targets and create “what to do when you cannot drink much” plans.

4) Side effect strategies that protect nutrition. During nausea or reflux flares, we adjust meal timing, portion size, and food texture so you can still meet nutrition needs while symptoms settle.
5) Sustainable progress (not quick fixes)We build habits that support long-term results: consistent fueling, meal structure, and eating behavior skills that reduce grazing, all-or-nothing patterns, and stress-related eating.
